Groundwork Music is so excited to be offering ukulele lessons, for kids eight and older, this year at Mills Elementary! We have been providing ukulele lessons in Austin schools for over a decade, and we look forward to offering another year of service at Mills!
Lessons include ukulele play, singing, note reading, ear training, and lots of fun songs that kids love to play. Students get to play traditional songs, as well as ones that kids all over Austin have come to love, by way of public performances from the Groundwork Music Orchestra. All students will have opportunities to play with the band throughout the year, with a big Holiday Concert at Central Market in December. Groundwork Music Project also hosts monthly shows at Cherrywood Coffee House, every second Sunday morning.
Along with lots of fun, this program is a great primer for more advanced musical endeavors in middle school and beyond. We often hear back from formerly participating families about how well prepared their child was for middle school band and other musical activities.
Mr. Evan studied for three years with the renowned ukulele teacher training program created by James Hill, the James Hill Ukulele Initiative. He is both a teacher and a multi-instrumental performer, who has been working with Groundwork Music Project since 2016.
